Aslan, an Alocasia Azlanii or Jewel Alocasia 'Red Mambo', is a rare beauty indeed. He's famed for his stunning, glossy, dark-purple leaves with almost black edges and bright purple veins, which means he essentially looks like a scene from space!
Native to subtropical Asia and Eastern Australia, Aslan tends to grow in rocky terrain under thick forest canopies, which means he actually prefers a touch of shade rather than bright light.
Aslan, Alocasia Azlanii
Aslan prefers bright indirect light to partial shade without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
