Gavin, an Alocasia Golden Cucullata or Golden Hooded Dwarf Elephants Ear, is an almost unheard variety of Alocasia - no really, he's a rarity. He has bright, almost chartreuse-yellow, heart-shaped leaves scattered with patches of green variegation.
His cousin Carl, a regular Alocasia Cucullata, is also known as a Buddha's hand because it's believed he can bring good fortune. For this reason, he is often kept in Buddhist temples across Thailand.
Gavin, Alocasia Golden Cucullata
Gavin prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
