Betty, a Baby Alocasia Black Velvet, Alocasia Reginula, or Jewel Alocasia, is a stunning dwarf variety of the Alocasia family native to Malaysia and Borneo.
Believe it or not, her name actually translates to 'little queen', and it's pretty clear to see why!
There are 2 main reasons why she's so popular; 1, she's pretty rare, and 2, well, just look at her! Her leaves are an almost black matt dark green, paired with bright sparkly silver-white veins.
Betty, Baby Alocasia Black Velvet
Betty prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
