Rosie, a baby Alocasia cuprea 'Red Secret' or Elephant Ear 'Red Secret', is a rare member of the Alocasia family. Her dark red, almost black leaves, have a metallic finish that glistens under light - interestingly cuprea actually means copper in Latin. If that wasn't enough, Rosie's stems have an almost translucent appearance.

Native to the rainforests of Borneo, Rosie is usually found growing under the forest canopy. Her metallic leaves help to absorb any light making its way through the canopy above.

  • Rosie prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.

If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:

    • Minimal shadow = lower light
    • Half shadow = indirect light
    • Full shadow = direct sun
