Phoebe, a Pilea Peperomioides, Chinese Money Plant, Pancake Plant, UFO Plant, or 'Pass it On Plant', is one of the OG's of the plant world - how else could it have so many nicknames?! Most of her nicknames relate to her shape - obviously - but the latter, the 'Pass it On Plant', was given to her because she's so easy to propagate!
Native to the Yunnan & Sichuan provinces of China, Phoebe has been around in the UK since 1906 and has been a popular houseplant ever since. Her flat, coin-shaped shaped leaves can grow to 15cm wide, and all she asks for is a bright spot with the odd drink!
Phoebe, Baby Pilea Peperomioides
Phoebe prefers medium to bright light.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
