Irving, a Begonia Inca Flame or Begonia rex Beleaf Inca Flame, has stunning metallic leaves that appear to shimmer under light with colours ranging from deep red to pink depending on the light!
Unlike most Begonia, Irving isn't as sensitive to light or water, so you're not going to have a lot of work on your hands - what's not to like?!
Did you know, it was Charles Plumier, a French botanist and monk in the 1690's, who named the Begonia after his patron Michel Bégon, a French botanist and diplomat in the 17th century.
Irving, Begonia Inca Flame
Irving prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
