Cyrus, a Begonia Iron Cross or Begonia Masoniana, gets his name from the chocolate-brown patterning on the inside of his lime-green leaves. If his colouring wasn't enough, his leaves have a unique highly textured appearance.

Native to the forests of China, Cyrus can grow up to 50cm in the wild, but don't worry, he shouldn't get quite that big inside!

Did you know, it was Charles Plumier, a French botanist and monk in the 1690's, who named the Begonia after his patron Michel Bégon, a French botanist and diplomat in the 17th century.

  • Cyrus prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.

If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:

    • Minimal shadow = lower light
    • Half shadow = indirect light
    • Full shadow = direct sun
