Brad, a Blue Star Fern or Phlebodium Aureum, is a beautiful blue-green number with delicate stems and almost random-shaped leaves.
Native to the tropical rainforests of South America, Brad is an epiphyte, which means he's more often than not found growing in and around other trees or rocks.
Believe it or not, when Brad is happy he gets big, sometimes with leaves as long as 1.3m! Don't worry though, indoors he won't get this big, so he won't need his own room.
Interestingly, Brad has been used as a medicine to treat conditions such as asthma & psoriasis. That being said, we wouldn't suggest trying this for yourself!
Brad, Blue Star Fern
Brad prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
