Bobby, a Boston Fern, Sword Fern, or Nephrolepis Exaltata Green Lady, is usually found dwelling in warm, humid, and shady spots, like a swamp for example! Bobby was hugely popular with the Victorians, probably because he thrived in the slightly damp and dark homes of old!
If Bobby's happy he can grow as high as 90cm and in some extreme cases 150cm! Bobby isn’t very forgiving if his soil dries out or if the humidity is too low, so be sure to keep him lightly moist top to bottom!
Bobby, Boston Fern
Bobby prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
