Colby, a Cleistocactus Strausii Cactus, Silver Torch, or Wooly Torch, gets his name from the Greek word "kleistos" which means "closed", because his flowers rarely open. If he is happy, however, you'll see rose-red flowers scattered along his stems in summer.
Native to mountainous regions of Department Tarija in Bolivia, Colby can reach a height of 3m but remain around 6cm in diameter. If he's happy, you'll see rose-red flowers scattered along his stems in summer.
Colby, Cleistocactus Strausii Cactus
Colby prefers bright light and once established will even tolerate direct sun.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
