Helena, a Hoya Kerrii, Lucky-Heart plant, or Sweetheart plant, is synonymous with Valentine's Day across Europe. Native to South-East Asia, Helena is actually a climbing plant, with numerous heart-shaped leaves strung along her vines which can grow up to 4 metres tall!

In the wild, she blooms with small red-pink flowers, but you'd be very lucky to see this in the UK. If you're patient, Helena's leaf will grow into a full plant, although she's more commonly enjoyed as a single leaf!

  • Helena prefers bright indirect light without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.

If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:

    • Minimal shadow = lower light
    • Half shadow = indirect light
    • Full shadow = direct sun
