Mylie, a Mistletoe Cactus, Rhipsalis Cassutha, Rhipsalis Baccifera, is one of the OG traditional Christmas plants, with its dangly stems and white berries, but because she's a cactus, she'll look good year-round! Don't be fooled by her colloquial name though, you don't need to kiss when you're near her unless you want to of course.

Native to South America and Africa, Mylie is an epiphyte, which means she grows in the branches of larger trees and rockfaces. As Mylie gets older, you may be lucky enough to see her show off with white flowers and then berries, but you'll have to be patient!

Interestingly, despite the fact she's a cactus, Mylie isn't actually a fan of the sun or dry soil! In fact, the direct sun would cause damage to her tender stems, so be careful. She actually prefers a bright indirect spot with plenty of humidity, closer to the care of a Calathea for example.

  • Mylie prefers bright indirect light without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.

If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:

    • Minimal shadow = lower light
    • Half shadow = indirect light
    • Full shadow = direct sun
