Isabelle, a Philodendron Imperial Red, is a decorative foliage plant with large, paddle-shaped, leathery leaves. Her younger leaves are a bright red-orange, which progress to a deep burgundy-purple mixed with dark glossy green.
Isabelle is one of several hybrid Philodendrons that have been created by growers over the last few years, hybrids of plants native to the West Indies, and Tropical Rainforests of Central and South America.
Interestingly, the leaves of philodendron are tasty to red howler monkeys, not that you'd ever have to worry about that.
Isabelle, Philodendron Imperial Red
Isabelle prefers bright indrect light without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight wouldn’t go a miss.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
