Vernon, a Philodendron Verrucosum, is a rare find. His large heart-shaped leaves look as if they're made from a piece of deep-green velvet, giving him an almost iridescent appearance. In contrast, his underbelly is a dark red tone. If that wasn't interesting enough, he also has hairy petioles.

Native to the rainforests of Central & South America, Vernon is a climbing Philodendron that is usually found clinging to larger trees under the canopy. As a climbing plant, Vernon would love the support of a moss pole, or stake - he'll grow far more quickly if he's happy!

  • Vernon prefers indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight wouldn’t go a miss.

If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:

    • Minimal shadow = lower light
    • Half shadow = indirect light
    • Full shadow = direct sun
