Stanley, a Staghorn Fern or Platycerium Bifurcatum, doesn't really need explaining. As you might've guessed, he's named so because his leaves resemble the horns of a stag - this means he makes a great centrepiece, and when he starts to trail, he looks even better hanging.
Native to New Guinea and Australia Stanley is an epiphyte, which means he's more often than not found growing in and around other trees or rocks. In the wild, Stanley can grow to 90 cm tall.
Stanley, Staghorn Fern
Stanley prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight however would be welcomed.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
