Ulisses, a Tillandsia Useneoides, Spanish Moss, or Old Mans Beard grows like wire, or as his nickname suggests, an old man's beard. Ulisses is very chilled, so you'll be able to leave him to do his own thing.
Native to Mexico, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Central America, South America, the Southern United States, and the West Indies, Ulisses is an epiphytic plant, which means he's often found growing on large trees or rocks.
Believe it or not, Ulisses is a flowering plant, and before flowering, he'll turn bright red. To be able to flower again, he'll need a good amount of direct sunlight.
Ulisses, Tillandsia Usneoides
Ulisses prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight wouldn’t go a miss.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
