Ulrike, an Umbrella Tree or Schefflera Nora, has oval leaves that fan out from a central stalk, resembling an umbrella - hence the name. Whilst Umbrella Tree is the most common name, Ulrike is also known as the Dwarf Umbrella Tree, Queensland Umbrella Tree, Gold Capella, and Octopus Tree.

Native to Asia, in the wild Ulrike will happily grow to 15ft tall, but don't worry, she's unlikely to get that big in your home! Unlike her cousin Uma, Ulrike's leaves are the same bright green colour all over, which means she's less likely to suffer from brown patches.

  • Ulrike prefers bright indirect light to partial shade, without prolonged exposure to direct sun - a touch of morning sunlight wouldn’t go a miss.

If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:

    • Minimal shadow = lower light
    • Half shadow = indirect light
    • Full shadow = direct sun
