Xavier, a Xerographica Air Plant or Xeros, is so-called because he requires no soil at all to grow. Because of this, it means that he can be placed almost anywhere without having to worry about a pot.
Native to the mountains and deserts of South and Central America, Xavier is epiphytic, which means he grows in and around other plants without harming them.
Their name is a bit of a mouthful - in fact, it translates from Greek to mean “dry writing” or “dry painting.”
Xavier, Xerographica Air Plant
Xavier prefers bright light and once established will even tolerate direct sun.
If you’re not sure what level of light you have, check the shadows cast by your plant:
- Minimal shadow = lower light
- Half shadow = indirect light
- Full shadow = direct sun
