PRODUCT PROJECT

KadiBag Shopping Trolley

The challenge was to re-visit the Shopping Trolley and develop a serious contender to the plastic bag, by dispelling the negative UK consumers’ perceptions of the ‘Granny Trolley’.

The scope of the project was to design an eco-friendly, stylish product that aids the urban dweller to transport shopping home, without the use of a personal vehicle. The greatest challenge for me was to design a product that would appeal aesthetically to a younger target market (25-35).

With the average EU citizen consuming 500 plastic carrier bags a year, many are used for only 20 minutes but take up to 1,000 years to rot each away.

The design consists of 'two' separate bags, that look like 'one'. A collapsible framework, that can be stored in the lower bag with the upper bag and via a shoulder strap for ease of  transportation and then stored neatly after use for requirements of compact living.

Ergonomically constructed with a new form of Handle design position, thus changes the whole way in which a 'user' uses the shopping trolley reducing long-term injury and improving the way in which the user shops.

Manufactured in a wide variety of colours combination, ‘Bespoke’ options would also be available.

SYSTEMS PROJECT

Fire-Fighters Aid

The Emergency Fire Services are faced with many challenges in relation to communication on a daily basis.  Products and Equipment currently available to Emergency Fire personnel do not always achieve the objectives required for first class communication.

After working closely with a Fire Brigade within Cardiff, the main area of concern highlighted by them in relation to communication was visual and hearing constriction.  Impairment was their No.1 issue, as this would create an array of dangerous complications when trying to carry out tasks on a day-to-day basis.

My task was to develop an innovative product that would assist the Fire Services to evaluate a situation in a more effective way prior to fire-fighting personnel entering a life-threating situation whether it be a house or a large building (school, hospital, factory etc).

The most effective design to overcome the task, was to create a flying Drone linked to a hand-held device controlled by fire-fighting personnel.

Procedure of a Use:-

1: Fire officer survey's situation

2: Activates Drone

3: Drone gives instant information back to officer

4: Officer informs firefighters

5: Duties are carried out effectively reducing time lost

I have always been passionate about design. Seeing good design being used and having an effect on the user within it's intended environment is why I chose to study Product Design. Product Design also allows me to work in a wide range of area's and this is why I'm passionate about and want my future to be in Product design.
My other interest are traveling abroad to explore different cities and culture's and taking part in sports such as cycling and watching live music .
